IHS Fee For UK Student Visa

The amount you’ll need to pay for your visa depends on its duration, with costs varying based on the type of visa and specific applicant criteria. Below is a guide to the fees you might expect depending on your situation.

Annual Visa Costs

For each year of your visa, the following fees apply:

  • £776 per year for students, dependents, Youth Mobility Scheme applicants, and applicants under 18. For example, a 2-year visa would cost £1,552.
  • £1,035 per year for other visa applicants, such as those applying for work or family visas. For example, a 3-year visa would cost £3,105.

Partial-Year Costs

The fees for visas shorter than a full year vary based on duration and application location.

  • 6 Months or Less:
    • If applying from outside the UK, no surcharge is required.
    • If applying from within the UK, you’ll pay half the annual cost:
      • £388 for students, Youth Mobility Scheme applicants, or those under 18.
      • £517.50 for other types of applications.
  • More Than 6 Months but Less Than a Year:
    • A full year’s fee is required for all applicants, regardless of application location.
  • More Than One Year:
    • For visas up to 18 months, you’ll pay the yearly fee plus half of the yearly fee.
    • For visas longer than 18 months but less than 2 years, you’ll pay the full 2-year cost.

Dependants

Dependants who are 18 or older typically pay the same amount as the primary applicant.

Fee Calculator

To estimate your total payment, you can use the UK government’s fee calculator. Be aware that your visa’s actual length may exceed your course or job duration, so your payment may differ from the calculator’s estimate.

Non-Payment Consequences

If you do not pay the surcharge or underpay, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will notify you by email, sent to the address on your application. Be sure to check your junk folder if the email doesn’t appear in your inbox.

After receiving this notice, you’ll need to pay within:

  • 10 working days if you’re in the UK, or
  • 7 working days if you’re outside the UK.

Failure to pay in full within the given timeframe will result in your visa or immigration application being denied.
